Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance at Dean College prepares students for success both on and off the stage. The program combines academic courses in dance history, dance composition, Laban Movement Analysis, dance pedagogy, writing for the arts, anatomy, and kinesiology with conservatory-level training in all techniques.
Specialized Tracks
Students can choose from the following specialized tracks:
- Dance Pedagogy: Learn the art and science of teaching dance from experts in the field.
- Dance Performance/Choreography: Demonstrate overall technical proficiency and gain an understanding of choreography.
- Dance Science: Focus on the intersection of dance and health sciences, with access to Dean's Athletic Training Clinic for the Performing Arts.
- Dance Studies: Gain an understanding of the breadth of the dance field and take a leadership role in identifying and pursuing interdisciplinary dance studies.
- Studio Management: Learn the essential skills to successfully run and manage a dance studio, including business management, marketing, and facility management.
Program Requirements
Prospective students are required to complete an audition for the Dance program, as well as an application for admission.
