Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:

• Discuss the role of evidence-based practice in healthcare
• Demonstrate a critical understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different forms of evidence
• Search and retrieve sources of evidence using electronic databases
• Critically evaluate quantitative and qualitative research evidence
• Identify barriers and facilitators for implementation of best evidence into professional practice
• Present and communicate information about research evidence and evidence-based practice to various audiences

Assessment Format

Participants who successfully complete the course and pass all assessments will receive an academic transcript and certificate detailing the academic award and credits received. This is a postgraduate program, and those who complete this course will gain five European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Progression Options

RCSI's micro-credentials may be stacked to build towards a higher award.

Accreditation and Recognition

RCSI is a recognized University of the National University of Ireland (NUI). Recognition by ministries and bodies in other jurisdictions must be determined by individual applicants.

Admissions

Entry Requirements

To be considered for entry into the program, applicants must:

• Be a healthcare professional, including social care professionals
• Hold a bachelor's degree; if not, please see the recognition of prior learning pathway outlined below
• Each application will be assessed on an individual basis
• If English is not the first language, applicants must supply a copy of an academic IELTS examination or equivalent, with an overall score of at least 6.5 and no individual band below 6.5

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If applicants do not meet the minimum academic requirements, they may still be eligible to apply through recognition of prior learning (RPL). RPL assesses knowledge, skills, and competence previously acquired through work, social and community activities, or life experience.

Fees and Funding

• Total fees: 750, to be paid on acceptance of the course
• The fee includes all resources and access to the online learning portal
• RCSI accepts no obligation to refund any fee, or part thereof, in respect of a student who chooses to withdraw from a program
