The MSc in Leadership and Innovation in Healthcare is a postgraduate program designed to develop the leadership competencies and management skills of healthcare professionals. The program aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and insights necessary to effectively manage and lead in diverse healthcare settings.

Program Overview

• The program is delivered online, part-time, over a period of two years.
• It consists of seven modules, each worth 10 ECTS, and a research project worth 20 ECTS.
• The program is accredited by the National University of Ireland (NUI).

Modules

• Module 1: Developing and Demonstrating Personal Leadership Qualities
  • This module focuses on developing personal leadership qualities and strategies to influence and persuade teams effectively.
• Module 2: Working with and Leading Others
  • This module explores team leadership, building rapport, and creating effective, motivated work teams.
• Module 3: Leading and Managing Services
  • This module provides an understanding of the nature of service and the factors that contribute to excellence in leading and managing services in healthcare.
• Module 4: Leading Innovation and Change
  • This module focuses on models of change, recognizing triggers of change, and effectively leading and implementing change and innovation in healthcare.
• Module 5: Strategic Planning and Implementation
  • This module introduces current strategies, practices, and best practice frameworks, tools, and techniques for strategic planning and implementation in healthcare.
• Module 6: Developing a Future-Oriented Mindset
  • This module develops competencies in the role of leadership in healthcare by advancing tomorrow's leadership skills and qualities today.
• Module 7: Research Methods and Methodology
  • This module provides in-depth knowledge of the principles of good research and recognition of the range of tools and concepts necessary in healthcare research.
• Research Project
  • The research project involves conducting a research project in the student's organization, focusing on leading and innovation or change in healthcare.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

• Develop the personal and professional capacity to lead in healthcare organizations.
• Critically appraise modern leadership theory and practice.
• Analyze and synthesize complex management and leadership problems.
• Examine the role of health economics, quality improvement, financial management, human resources management, and the principles of governance in leading effective innovative services.
• Demonstrate the ability to challenge assumptions and question processes, policies, and procedures in healthcare.

Admission Requirements

• Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree.
• Applicants must be working in the healthcare industry.
• English language proficiency is required, with an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent, unless exempt.

Fees and Funding

• EU Applicants: Year 1: €8,800, Year 2: €4,950.
• Non-EU Applicants: Year 1: €14,000, Year 2: €8,000.
• Fees include all resources, access to the online learning portal, and extensive RCSI-only databases.
