Program Overview

The Veterinary Technology Open Learning Diploma program is designed to provide students with the essential skills and knowledge required to succeed in the field of veterinary technology. The program is available in Canada only for students enrolled in the Veterinary Technology Diploma Open Learning program.


Course Details

VTEC 1825: Veterinary Clinical Work & Correspondence 2

This course is a 13-week, 2.0-credit course that involves entry-level competencies in the first year of the Veterinary Technology Open Learning Diploma. The course is delivered online, paced, and requires admittance into Semester 2 of the TRU VTEC onsite program or the TRU VTEC Open Learning Program.


Prerequisites

  • Admittance into Semester 2 of the TRU VTEC onsite program or the TRU VTEC Open Learning Program
  • All vaccinations up to date, including rabies vaccine

Co-requisites

  • Student member in good standing of provincial vet tech association regulatory body

Learning Outcomes

  1. Students must show proof that they have registered as members of their Provincial Associations.
  2. Perform, or demonstrate knowledge of, essential skill procedures outlined in VTEC 1201 and VTEC 1693.
  3. Maintain paid work in a full-service Canadian veterinary hospital or clinic for 260 hours during the semester.
  4. Ensure all Clinic Affiliation Forms are complete and filed at TRU.
  5. Confirm required level of professional supervision is present at selected location of clinical placement.
  6. Complete and submit the Essential Skills Workbook demonstrating completion of skills outlined in VTEC 1201 and VTEC 1693.
