The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is a one-year degree that empowers students to play a pivotal role in research on topics or issues that matter to them most, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving and opening doors to a career that makes a difference.
Overview
This degree allows students to immerse themselves in a scientific field they are passionate about and build the foundation to become a skilled research scientist. Students will be guided by renowned academics and professionals in three core courses where they will carry out original scientific research, evaluate real-world practical problems and the limitations they place on progress in science, and learn to critically evaluate scientific literature.

Professional Accreditation
If students choose to conduct their research in Psychology, this specialization is fully accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as a fourth-year degree in psychology. As a graduate of the Bachelor of Science (Honours), students will be eligible to apply for provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
What You'll Study
To graduate from the Bachelor of Science (Honours), students must successfully complete 8 units of study. The degree structure consists of:
- A one-year Honours degree that builds independent research, critical thinking, and academic writing skills
- Three mandatory core courses (6 units)
- Selection of Core Courses Pathway A, Pathway B, or Pathway C
- SCI4405 - Research Practice and Ethics (1 Unit)
- SCI4400 - Mechanics of Undertaking Honours Research (1 Unit)
- SCI4422 - Science Honours Project B (4 Units)
- Core Courses Pathway A (2 Units): SCI4421 - Science Honours Project A (2 Units)
- Core Courses Pathway B (2 Units): SCI4403 - Special Study in Science (1 Unit) and one other course (1 unit) approved by the Honours supervisor
- Core Courses Pathway C (2 Units): two courses (2 units) approved by the Honours supervisor

Entry Requirements
To be considered for entry into this Honours degree, students must satisfy the following requirements:
- Completion of an Australian university bachelor degree, or equivalent, in the area of Honours study
- Minimum GPA of 5.0 (credit)
- Supervisory and honours committee approval prior to enrolment
- Applicants for the Psychology specialization must have completed an undergraduate degree or qualification approved by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as constituting the first three years (or equivalent) of study in psychology within the last three years
English Language Requirements
Students must meet the applicable English language requirements, which include:
- IELTS (Academic) - Minimum overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each of the four components - listening, reading, writing, and speaking
- Alternative English language proficiency tests may also be accepted
