Program Overview


Overview

The Flight Operations major within the Bachelor of Aviation at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a professional pilot. This major examines both technical and non-technical aviation areas, including multi-crew cooperation, safety management systems, and international aviation. Students learn from aviation experts with strong links to industry and employers, and they only study courses that are directly relevant to their profession.

As a graduate of the Flight Operations major, students can work as a:

  • Tourism operator They may also be eligible to apply for cadetships or traineeships offered by some airlines, or Australian Defence Force positions.

Professional Accreditation

Once students have successfully completed their flight training, the Australian Civil Aviation Authority will issue their Commercial Pilot Licence, allowing them to fly as a professional and receive remuneration as a pilot.

The Flight Operations major is part of the Bachelor of Aviation degree. This degree allows students to gain professional pilot qualifications or prepare for critical roles on the ground. Eligible students can be considered for the Qantas Group Aviation Career Enrichment Program (Q-ACE), leading to employment with QantasLink as First Officers.


Flight Training

After completing their second year of study, students will undertake formal flight training with a flight school that is a Registered Training Organisation. They will be responsible for any fees or costs associated with flight training. The University will grant eight units of block credit for the second year of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations) major for applicable VET registered diplomas, such as AVI50222 Diploma in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence Aeroplane) or AVI50319 Diploma in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence Helicopter).
