The Turn to Teaching Internship Program is designed for degree-qualified early or mid-career professionals who wish to become primary or secondary teachers. This program is a collaboration between the Department of Education and the University of Southern Queensland.

The Turn to Teaching program is a two-year supported pathway that enables participants to enter the classroom in just 12 months. Key features of the program include:


  • A $20,000 scholarship
  • A paid internship teaching position while studying
  • A guaranteed permanent teaching position upon program completion

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to:


  • University students in their final year of a non-teaching degree
  • Prospective Initial Teacher Education (ITE) students who have previously completed a non-teaching degree
