Overview of the Bachelor of Visual Art Program
The Bachelor of Visual Art program at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) is designed to produce graduates who are creative, innovative, adaptable, and entrepreneurial. This industry-relevant degree explores the future of visual art and its applications within evolving new employment opportunities in the 21st century.
Program Structure
The program consists of 24 units of study, including core units, a 12-unit Visual Art major, and selection units. Students can choose to major in either Curation, Innovation, and Visual Art or Visual Art Studio Practice. The program also offers the option to add a minor from another discipline.
Majors
- Curation, Innovation, and Visual Art: This major focuses on the future of visual art and its application, providing students with detailed knowledge of historical, ideological, critical, and ethical perspectives.
- Visual Art Studio Practice: This major builds upon practical art-making skills and techniques, helping students form their identity as emerging artists and gain advanced studio-based learnings and technical proficiencies.
Degree Requirements
To graduate, students must successfully complete the required units, including:
- 4 core units
- 12 units of Visual Art major
- 8 units of selection units, which can be either a second major, two minors, or one minor and elective courses
Entry Requirements
Entry into the Bachelor of Visual Art program requires:
- ATAR 60.00
- Attendance at an interview with a portfolio
- Sound knowledge in English (Units 3 & 4, C) and Visual Arts (Units 3 & 4, C)
- If no ATAR, applicants can undertake an interview and supply a written statement
English Language Requirements
International students must meet the applicable English language requirements, which include an IELTS (Academic) minimum overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each of the four components.
Fees and Scholarships
The estimated annual fee for the program is AUD 9,536. Students may be eligible for scholarships, and the university offers a range of scholarships for academic excellence, community leadership, and financial need.
