Overview

This course provides Registered Nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary for the management of immunisation regimes for both children and adults based on the underlying philosophy of Primary Health Care and Public Health. Registered Nurses have a prominent position in the promotion of the community's health and well-being. Immunisation is a national public health strategy, designed to reduce the mortality and morbidity rates related to vaccine-preventable diseases in Australia. Registered Nurses with the appropriate training for vaccine administration and cold chain storage are leading the way with public health for the Australian community.

This course offers Registered Nurses the opportunity to integrate and apply Health Management Protocols and Drug Therapy Protocols along with relevant immunisation theory to their clinical practice. On successful completion of this course, students may be eligible to apply for authorisation to practice under the Immunisation Program Drug Therapy Protocol.

Course Requirements

Students are required to complete 6 hours of supervised clinical practice in an Authorised Immunisation Clinic.
