Overview

Paramedic Placement 2 provides students with their second block of four weeks full-time practical experience with the Queensland Ambulance Service or other placement provider. Students will work as the third officer on an emergency ambulance vehicle and will be expected to perform as a functional team member under the instruction of the ambulance crew. Students will be expected to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge and skills as compared to Paramedic Placement 1 (PMC1303) as they will have undertaken further study in the interim period.

This course is a competency-based course, and assessment items must be successfully completed to pass the course. These competency items form part of the UniSQ accreditation agreement with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

This course includes a mandatory on-campus post-placement residential school, and non-attendance will mean the student cannot pass the course. This will be held after the completion of the clinical placement block.

The second practical placement of 163 hours provides the students with the opportunity to perform as a functional member of a paramedic team under the supervision of a qualified paramedic. The student should incorporate their increased knowledge and skills by contributing to assessment and management of patients who present with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, as well as the general assessment of other patients.
