Program Overview
Course Description
In the contemporary business landscape, change is inevitable. With the advent of new technologies, organizations are required to redesign their business processes. Business process management (BPM) is a body of knowledge relating to the identification, documentation, design, and management of business processes. BPM skills are highly sought after by many organisations as they enable positive change with respect to operational efficiency. In today's global and competitive environment, the ability to identify and eliminate waste, as well redesign processes to take advantage of new technologies is key to organisations remaining competitive. This course provides an overview of BPM, and introduces process lifecycle, enterprise architecture concepts including process modelling and process improvement, developing skills in process modelling, analysis and improvement. As a backdrop to learning these methodologies and technical skills, the course also draws out the key role that people (e.g., employees) play in successful BPM initiatives that deliver business benefit. Importantly, this course takes a systems thinking approach to redesign the business processes.

- Qualitative and Quantitative Process Analysis: Lean vs Six Sigma
- Digital maturity models from adaptive enterprise architecture
- Process Implementation and Monitoring

The course is available online in Trimester 3.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:
- Apply process modelling languages to represent business processes depending on purpose and audience;
- Critique the importance of business value and apply techniques to identify and prioritise business processes based on business value;
- Evaluate business processes and respond with appropriate business improvement techniques;
- Evaluate the role of BPM in the context of Enterprise Architecture;
- Work autonomously and collaboratively in a team to manage process modelling projects efficiently.
