Introduction to TeacherReady

TeacherReady is an online teacher certification program designed for professionals, non-certified teachers, military veterans and spouses, and recent college graduates. The program equips students with modern and impactful teaching methodologies to directly impact students and classrooms.

Program Overview

The TeacherReady program can be completed within one year and provides an alternative certification route. The program is a Florida State approved Educator Preparation Institute and is accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Admission Requirements

• Hold a bachelor's degree in any area from an accredited college or university
• Have an Eligible Statement of Eligibility from the FLDOE
• Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher in the last 60 hours of coursework

Program Curriculum

The TeacherReady program includes:

Foundation Courses

• Fundamentals of Teaching (approx. 4 weeks per course)
  • Professional Fundamentals
  • Workplace Fundamentals
  • Effective Frameworks of Teaching
  • Classroom Management Basics

Intensive Lessons

• TeacherReady Intensives (approx. 4 weeks per lesson)
  • Managing and Engaging Students to Learn
  • Alignment of Learning Targets and Standards
  • Learning Tasks and Feedback Strategies
  • Aligning Summative Assessment Tools
  • Engaging Students in Special Populations
  • Engaging Students in Reading
  • Applying Five Components of Reading

Teaching Clinical Experience

The program includes clinical experience assignments completed in PK-12 classrooms, aligned to the online curriculum. Clinical experiences provide opportunities for teacher candidates to apply concepts, skills, and actions learned in TeacherReady online lessons into real classrooms.

Clinical Experience Requirements

• Complete a minimum of 185 clinical hours
• Clinical Experience includes a one full week (35 hours) culminating clinical experience at the end (Intensive Lesson 8)
• Some states require additional clinical hours

Tuition and Cost

The full teacher certification costs from TeacherReady application to program completion are:

• Program Application Fee: $30
• Program Tuition: $5,400
• Electronic Portfolio Fee: $100
• Florida Department of Education Application Fees: $75-$150
• Florida Teacher Certification Exams: $300-$450

• Military Service Members and Family: VA benefits can be used to pay for TeacherReady through reimbursement
• Financial Aid Options: The TeacherReady Program qualifies for continuing education loans

State Documentation and Certification Exams

• To earn professional certification through TeacherReady, students need to pass the three Florida exams: General Knowledge (GK) test, Subject Area Exam (SAE), and Professional Education (PEd) test
• The Florida exams are required even if students are seeking certification in another state

Partnerships

TeacherReady has partnerships with:

• Waldorf University: TeacherReady alumni receive 10% off of their tuition costs and 12-15 credit hours toward their M.Ed. at Waldorf University
• University of West Florida: TeacherReady alumni are eligible for up to 6 credit hours toward the M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction or the M.A. Exceptional Student Education at the University of West Florida
• Man Up: Man Up helps men of color become teachers, and TeacherReady is one of their partner institutions.
