Finance Undergraduate Certificate
The Finance Certificate provides students with a general background in finance covering corporate finance, financial institutions, and investments.
What You Will Learn
As part of the foundation in finance education, you will learn to identify and analyze key elements that comprise finance problems/opportunities; select and apply appropriate frameworks for solving problems; integrate the functional areas that comprise finance; develop effective written presentations; and recognize legal and ethical issues that occur in business.
Finance students will gain a broad business background with exposure to areas such as accounting, management, marketing, data analytics, and business ethics. You will also take courses focusing on the areas of investments, corporate finance, and financial institutions that will provide the knowledge needed to succeed in a wide variety of finance careers.
A certificate in finance will provide you with a broad introduction to all functional areas of finance.
Courses
- FIN 3244: Financial Markets and Institutions
- Structure and functions of financial markets and institutions; interest rates, exchange rates, intermediation, and markets.
- FIN 4461: Financial Statement Analysis
- Study of financial statements, including interpreting accounting data and analyzing financial statements.
- FIN 4414: Financial Theory and Practice
- Designed as an extension of FIN 3403. Topics such as risk and return, stock and bond valuation, time value of money, and capital budgeting, will be covered in greater depth.
- FIN 4504: Investments
- Introduction to investment securities and portfolio management concepts utilized by individual and institutional investors.
