Certified HVAC/R Technician Program

The Certified HVAC/R Technician program is designed to prepare students for a career in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry. This program will equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to earn NATE or HVAC Excellence certification in under 12 months.


Program Overview

The program focuses on core skills such as accurate measurement and conversions, heat carrying capacity, condensation and vaporization, and air weight and value. Students will master the concepts of heat transfer, BTU, temperature, heat content, sensible heat, latent heat, pressure, gas laws, and work, and describe how they apply to air conditioning and refrigeration systems.


Course Objectives

The course objectives include:


  • Explaining the concepts of heat transfer, BTU, temperature, heat content, sensible heat, latent heat, pressure, gas laws, and work, and describing how they apply to air conditioning and refrigeration systems
  • Describing the four basic components that make up the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle
  • Identifying the four major system components and explaining their functions in the refrigeration system
  • Properly installing an air-conditioning system and putting it into operation
  • Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems in air-conditioning and heat pump systems

Certification
