The Ed. 626 - Environmental Science program is designed to investigate the new AP Environmental Science Course and Exam Description. Participants will experience student-centered labs, activities, and fieldwork that align with the content, skills, and science practices that are the foundation of this course.
Program Objectives
The program aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the course framework and the Big Ideas that spiral through the units. It will also cover the scaffolding of concepts, skills, and science practices. The program will focus on hands-on activities, including designing experiments, engaging in inquiry-based activities, and collecting data in the field.
Program Structure
- The program will include a fully developed unit that will serve as a model for participants to plan a unit of their choice.
- Participants will develop a new lesson using suggested classroom strategies.
- Participants will create an assessment using the AP website test bank.
- Much of the program will be spent in the field and the lab, providing participants with hands-on activities to facilitate student learning and develop critical analysis and problem-solving abilities.
- Significant time will be spent analyzing and scoring student examples of free response questions and learning to navigate AP Classroom effectively.
Target Audience
The program is appropriate for both new and experienced AP teachers, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to teach the AP Environmental Science course effectively.
