Program Overview
Manhattan University Science & Engineering Camp
The Science & Engineering Summer Camp at Manhattan University introduces young learners to the science of engineering. Campers explore five engineering specialties: mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, and environmental engineering. Campers examine a different engineering specialty each week, allowing participants to learn what these five engineering disciplines offer the world and help improve.
Program Details
The program runs from Monday, July 6, to Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm (five weeks). The camp serves grades 5 through 8.
Daily Activities
On a typical day, campers meet with their teacher and work on a specific activity related to the engineering theme of the week. During lunchtime, they will meet virtually with a Manhattan University engineering alumni who will explain the type of work they do at their job. The participants will continue working on their engineering project in the second part of the day. There is one day dedicated to the lab. During this day, participants will meet with the Manhattan University Lab faculty, who will take them to the lab and explain which type of work engineers do there.
Cost and Financial Aid
The camp has a tiered pricing model where the more weeks you register, the less it costs. The camp offers several options to support parents with their financial situations.
Location and Safety
The camp is located in Riverdale, west of Van Cortlandt Park, and is conveniently located one and a half blocks from the NYC subway (#1 train at 242nd Street) and close to several major highways. Security and safety are the top priorities in the camp, and camp counselors will accompany all children at drop-off and pick-up times.
Staff and Camper Ratio
The camp staff comprises professionals with experience in education, usually middle school teachers and Manhattan University faculty; Manhattan University engineering students may also support daily activities. The camper-to-staff ratio is 15:1.
Activities and Projects
Participants will engage in different activities based on the types of challenges that engineers face. Participants will work individually or in groups on projects incorporating engineering skills and concepts from various engineering areas, including mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, and environmental engineering.
