Program Overview
Paramedic Program Overview
The Paramedic Program at Weber State University is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) since 1984. Weber State was the first accredited paramedic program in Utah and one of the first in the nation.
Program Description
The program aims to prepare paramedics who are competent in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains to enter the profession.
Paramedic Student Success, Retention, and Employment Rates
- The program exceeds all minimum thresholds and greatly surpasses national pass rate averages.
- First-time National Registry cognitive paramedic pass rate: 100% (as of the CoAEMSP Annual report year of 2023).
- Student Retention Rate for the annual report year of 2023: 95.7%.
- Positive Placement Rate: 95% (as of the annual report for 2022), defined by CAAHEP based on graduates who are working in either a full-time or part-time position as a paramedic within twelve months of graduation, continuing their education, or serving in the military.
Program Goals
The Paramedic Program goals, as defined by CAAHEP/CoAEMSP, are to prepare paramedics who are competent in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains to enter the profession.
EMT Student Success Rates
- First-time NREMT pass rate: 85% (from January 1, 2021, to present), compared to the national average of 68%.
- Second and third written attempt: 92%, compared to the national average of 80%.
