Associate of Applied Science in Outdoor Leadership
The Associate of Applied Science in Outdoor Leadership is an experientially-driven degree that provides students with the technical skills and certifications necessary to acquire jobs in front-line positions, including outdoor education, winter sports industry, outdoor adventure tour guides, and adventure and wilderness therapy.
Degree Information
Grade Requirements
A cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a grade of B- or better in required major courses are necessary for graduation. Students will receive the final grade they have earned in each course. If a grade in a major course does not meet the minimum requirement for graduation, the student may retake the course once. In special circumstances, by the judgment of the department chair, the student may petition to the Outdoor & Community Recreation committee, as appropriate, to graduate with the lower grade.
Credit Hour Requirements
A minimum of 63 credit hours is required for an associate of applied science degree; 45 of these credits are major requirements.

This degree provides students the opportunity to acquire multiple industry certifications, including:
- Wilderness First Responder
- Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician
- Single Pitch Instructor (American Mountain Guide Association)
- Leave No Trace Trainer
- Swift Water Rescue Technician
- Avalanche Level 1 (American Avalanche Association)
- Ski/Snowboard Instructor course prep in partnership with Powder Mountain
