Introduction to the 1-Year Producing Program in Los Angeles
The New York Film Academy's 1-Year Producing Program in Los Angeles is a conservatory-style, intensive program designed to equip students with the training and skills necessary to fully produce creative projects and pursue their interests in the film and television industries.
Program Overview
The program is held over the course of two full-time semesters and covers the essentials of the entire producing process, including:
- Acquiring rights
- Working with writers
- Packaging and assembling a commercially viable project
- Financing
- Production
- Pre-production
- Filming
- Post-production
- Marketing
- Distribution Students also learn the art of pitching and become comfortable with the legal aspects of producing.
Curriculum
The 1-Year Producing Program in Los Angeles curriculum includes:
- An intensive series of classes and hands-on workshops covering topics such as Producer's Craft, Directing for Producers, Cinematography & Lighting, Elements of Screenwriting, and Film Production
- Instruction and critique from the producing faculty actively working in the industry
- Actual experience working as a producer on set, as well as various roles in classmates' films
- Access to a high-tech video, sound, and lighting equipment library
- Guest lectures with industry professionals working as producers, directors, actors, and more

- Location: The two-semester 1-Year Producing Program is available at NYFA Los Angeles.
- Program Start Date and End Date: August 2026 – August 2027
- Tuition: $19,500 per semester
- Departmental Program Fee: $1,500 per semester
- Program Duration: 3 semesters

- Technology Fee: $80 per semester
- Wellness Services & Programming Fee: $145 per semester
- Activity Fee: $125 per semester
- Orientation Fee: $150 (domestic students), $200 (international students)
- Graduation Fee: $100
- International Student Fee: $200 (first semester), $120 (each subsequent semester)
Projects
During the program, students create a series of projects, including:
- Finance and Budgeting Plan
- Marketing and Distribution Plan
- TV Show Bible Students also work in collaboration with MFA students, participate in a Directing Production Workshop and the Acting for Producers Production Workshop, and present their final pitches to a professional industry panel.
Admission Requirements
Students must meet the admission requirements for the 1-Year Producing Program, which include:
- Submitting an application
- Providing transcripts and other supporting documents
- Meeting English proficiency requirements (for non-native English-speaking students)
International Pathway Program
Non-native English-speaking students who meet all admissions requirements except for English proficiency may apply to the International Pathway Program.
Accreditation and Approvals
The New York Film Academy is approved to operate by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) and is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).
