Introduction to the 4-Week Producing Workshop
The New York Film Academy (NYFA) offers a comprehensive 4-Week Producing Workshop designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the film and television production process. This intensive program covers all aspects of producing, from the acquisition of rights to marketing and distribution.
Workshop Description
The 4-Week Producing Workshop is a full-time program that runs from Monday to Friday. Students will gain hands-on experience in producing fundamentals, completing a selection of projects, including a short film, production management plan, and marketing and distribution plan. The workshop covers the work of a film and television producer, including the development of screenplays, working with writers, packaging projects, and securing film finance.
Class Details
The program includes the following areas of study:
- Producers Craft: Students will analyze each phase of a project, including development, production, post-production, and marketing and distribution.
- Screenwriting Fundamentals: Effective producers must have a basic understanding of storytelling and screenwriting elements.
- Directing for Producers: Students will understand how directors organize their vision and will participate in directing exercises.
- Entertainment Law: This area of study explores the legal and business issues related to film and television, including intellectual property, copyright, and fair use.
- Branding & Marketing: Students will learn to develop a brand and create a marketing plan for their projects.
- Hands-On Camera & Lighting: Producing students will learn fundamental skills in cinematography, including camera and lighting techniques.
- Editing: Students will learn to operate digital editing software and apply concepts such as temporal continuity and spatial continuity.
- Sound Design: Students will be introduced to voiceover, sound effects, and music as viable means to enhance story.
Program and Software Requirements
The course requires an external hard drive and an SD card. Equipment, curriculum, and projects are subject to change and may vary depending on location.
Tuition and Fees
The tuition for the 4-Week Producing Workshop is $4,491, with a departmental program fee of $10 in New York City and $599 in Los Angeles.
Locations and Dates
The program is offered in New York City and Los Angeles, with start dates in June and September.
Projects
