Program Overview
Introduction to the School of Nursing
The School of Nursing is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the National League for Nursing (NLN). The school is approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Undergraduate Programs
The traditional undergraduate program is designed for students who do not hold licensure in practical or registered nursing. The L.P.N. to B.S.N. program is designed for Licensed Practical Nurses who have completed a practical nursing program.
Admission Criteria
Admission to the School of Nursing is a selective process. Minimum criteria for admission include:
- Successful completion of specific prerequisite courses
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
- A minimum grade of 2.50 (or B-) on a 4.00 scale in each nursing prerequisite and co-requisite course
- Completion of the University Math Entrance Requirement
- Completion of the University's Language Entrance Requirement
- Physical and mental health with emotional stability sufficient to meet the School of Nursing Essential Qualifications
Continuation Policies
All nursing courses are sequential. Students must achieve a minimum grade of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale (C) in all required nursing courses. Failure to progress according to the program plan may result in dismissal or a significant delay in graduation.

The traditional B.S.N. sequence requires the completion of 64 semester hours of nursing courses, in addition to general university and other specific requirements. The curriculum plan includes courses such as:

Minor in Health Services
The Health Services minor is designed to support non-nursing majors. The minor requires the completion of 18 semester hours, including:
- NURS 100: Medical Terminology
- NURS 460: Health Care Systems and Policy
- PHIL 223: Biomedical Ethics
- At least three courses from the following areas:
- Diversity
- Administration
- Physiologic Functioning
- Applied Health Care
Master of Science in Nursing
The Master of Science in Nursing program is designed for registered nurses who have earned a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing
The Entry-Level Master of Science in Nursing program is a cohort program designed for those who have previously earned a baccalaureate or higher degree in an academic discipline other than nursing.
School Nurse Certification
The School of Nursing offers a program for school nurse certification.
Workshops and Short Courses
The School of Nursing offers workshops and short courses through the Office of Continuing Nursing Education.
