Pacific Lutheran University Programs
The university offers a range of programs for undergraduate and graduate students.
Undergraduate Programs
- The General Education Program is designed to provide students with a well-rounded education, and includes courses in art, music, theatre, literature, philosophy, religion, natural sciences, computer science, mathematics, and social sciences.
- The program requires 48 semester hours, and students must complete courses in each of the following areas:
- Art, Music, Theatre (4 hours)
- Literature (4 hours)
- Philosophy (4 hours)
- Religion (8 hours)
- Natural Sciences, Computer Science, or Mathematics (4 hours)
- Social Sciences (8 hours)
- The program requires 48 semester hours, and students must complete courses in each of the following areas:
- The International Honors Program (IHON) is a challenging and creative alternative to the General Education Program, and is designed for a select group of entering first-year students.
- The program requires 28 semester hours, and includes seven courses that fulfill 32 semester hours of the General Education Program.
- Students who complete the IHON program receive credit for the following:
- Art, Music, Theatre (4 hours)
- Literature (4 hours)
- Philosophy (4 hours)
- Religion (8 hours)
- Natural Sciences, Computer Science, or Mathematics (4 hours)
- Social Sciences (8 hours)
- Students in the IHON program must also complete the remaining 16 semester hours of the General Education Program, which includes courses in:
- First-Year Experience Program: Writing Seminar (4 hours)
- Physical Activity (4 hours)
- Mathematical Reasoning (4 hours)
- Science and Scientific Method (4 hours)
- Encountering Perspectives on Diversity (Alternative Perspectives and Cross-Cultural Perspectives)
