Civil Engineering, BS
Program Overview
Program Description
The Civil Engineering program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi prepares graduates to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering principles to solve complex problems. The program focuses on designing, constructing, supervising, and maintaining infrastructure, buildings, and systems for water treatment, hydroelectricity, and more. Civil engineers can pursue various specialties, including construction engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and environmental engineering.
Program Educational Objectives
The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) describe the professional accomplishments that Civil Engineering graduates are expected to achieve within a few years of graduation. The PEOs are:
- Within two years of graduation, graduates will be working in industry, government, construction, or other professional service as civil engineers, or pursuing graduate degrees in civil engineering or post-baccalaureate degrees in other fields.
- Within five years of graduation, graduates will have advanced in their careers, demonstrated the ability to increase their knowledge and expertise, and contributed to the improvement of the profession and society.
Student Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the Civil Engineering program will have:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations
- An ability to function effectively on a team
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
All civil engineering students are encouraged to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, which is an important step toward licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).
Admission from Pre-Engineering
Students admitted into a pre-engineering program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi who wish to transfer into one of the engineering programs must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater in specific courses.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) Option
Civil engineering students who have completed 96 credit hours and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher may elect the MBA option in their senior year.
