Program Overview
Cybersecurity, Accelerated Graduate Degree
The Cybersecurity, Accelerated Graduate Degree program allows undergraduates to begin taking graduate-level classes while still in their undergraduate program. These graduate credits can be used for both undergraduate and graduate-level coursework, facilitating a smooth transition into a graduate program.
Overview
Undergraduates accepted into the Accelerated Graduate Degree (AGD) program can start taking graduate coursework during their junior or senior year. The program may allow up to 12 hours of graduate-level coursework to also count towards an undergraduate degree. Graduate coursework and credit will appear only on the graduate transcript, and graduate course grades will be calculated towards the graduate GPA.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Accelerated Master's Degree Program, students must:
- Have completed at least 80 hours toward the bachelor's degree
- Have at least a 3.30 overall undergraduate GPA
- Have at least a 3.30 GPA in the major
Plan of Study
The B.S. in Computer Science (BSCS) curriculum requires 120 credit hours for graduation, and the M.S. in Cybersecurity (MSCY) degree requires 30 credit hours. Students enrolled in the Accelerated Master's Degree program can substitute up to a maximum of 12 credits of their BSCS courses with 12 graduate credits of the MSCY program to receive both BSCS and MSCY degrees in 5 years by completing a total of 138 credits.
The BSCS curriculum requires 6 credits of computer science major electives and 8 credits of free electives. During their senior year, Accelerated Master's Degree students will take four CS graduate courses (one in the fall semester and three in the spring semester) at the 500 or 600 level for graduate degree credit.
Semester Plan
The plan of study for the fifth year is as follows:
- Fall:
- CYBR 530: Cybersec Policies & Mgmt (3 credits)
- CYBR 615: Cyber Vulnerability Assess (3 credits)
- CYBR 680: Research in Cybersecurity (or Core Elective) (3 credits)
- Spring:
- Graduate Course (Concentration) (3 credits)
- Graduate Course (Free Elective) (3 credits)
- CYBR 681: Thesis (or Core Elective) (3 credits)
