Program Overview

Introduction to Marshall University

Marshall University offers a range of programs and resources for students, including the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program.

Writing Across the Curriculum

The WAC program offers writing-centered pedagogy to students in disciplines across the university. The program was created by faculty and formally approved by the Faculty Senate in 1994. It is part of Marshall's general education program.

Writing Intensive Courses

Writing Intensive (WI) courses reinforce critical thinking skills by using writing in a substantial way to enhance learning. In these courses, writing is not an "extra activity" – it is an integral part of the learning process.

WAC Statistics

  • 138 WI Sections
  • 76 Faculty teaching WI courses
  • 1874 Total WI enrollment

WAC News

Registrations are available for various WAC events, including the WAC Portfolio Session, New WAC Faculty Training, and the 2026 WAC Spring Symposium.
