Program Overview
Civil and Environmental Engineering, Accelerated Graduate Degree
Overview
The Civil and Environmental Engineering, Accelerated Graduate Degree program allows undergraduates to begin taking graduate-level classes while still in their undergraduate program. These graduate credits can be used for both the undergraduate and graduate level coursework, facilitating an easy and fast transition into a graduate program if a student is accepted.
Undergraduates accepted into the Accelerated Graduate Degree program can begin taking graduate coursework during their junior or senior year. Programs offering an Accelerated Graduate Degree option may allow up to 12 hours of graduate-level coursework to also count towards an undergraduate degree.
Graduate coursework/credit will appear only on the graduate transcript, and graduate course grades will be calculated towards the graduate GPA.
Undergraduates accepted to an Accelerated Graduate Degree program can begin taking master's level classes while still in the undergraduate program. Up to 12 graduate credits can be used to fulfill requirements for both the undergraduate and the master's degrees, effectively reducing the cost of, and time to, degree. Graduates of this program will be prepared for direct entry into the job market or continuation of graduate study towards a Ph.D. or other professional program.
The existing degree requirement for the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.) is 124 credit hours, which includes:
- ENGR 451 Intro to Proj Management
- Two Civil Engineering electives (6 credit hours)
- One technical elective (3 credit hours)
Accelerated Graduate Degree students would be permitted to take the graduate-level EM 660 Project Management in place of ENGR 451 Intro to Proj Management, and three graduate-level elective courses in place of the Civil Engineering electives and technical elective.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility Requirements for the Accelerated Graduate Degree program include:
- Completion of at least 60 hours toward the Bachelor's degree
- A minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.30
- A minimum GPA of 3.30 in the major
- Meeting the admission requirements of the chosen graduate degree program, apart from the receipt of a bachelor's degree
Students must earn a bachelor's degree to be fully admitted into the graduate degree program.
Accelerated Graduate Degree programs may have admission requirements that differ from the admission requirements for the regular graduate degree. For example, some departments might waive the required admission test, such as the GRE or GMAT.
