Program Overview
Pre-Computer Science Program
The Pre-Computer Science program is designed for students interested in pursuing a degree in either computer science or Computer and Information Technology.
Program Requirements
To be admitted into the Pre-Computer Science program, students must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Earned a minimum composite ACT score of 19 and Math ACT scores of 19-23 (SAT composite 990; Math 510-560)
- Completion of the following requirements:
- Earned 12 credit hours of college-level coursework
- Maintenance of Good Academic Standing
- Completion of MTH 127 College Algebra-Expanded/MTH 130 College Algebra (or equivalent) with a grade of
- Eligibility to enroll in:
- MTH 132 Precalculus with Sci Applica for Computer Science majors
- MTH 140 Applied Calculus for Computer Information Technology Majors
Transfer Students
Students transferring into Computer Science or Computer and Information Technology must either meet the program test score requirements or complete the listed requirements above for Pre-Computer Science majors. Once all the preceding requirements have been met, students will be transferred to their desired major.
Special Considerations for Transfer Students
Students transferring into the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences with 60 or more earned credit hours of coursework who do not meet the admission requirements for Computer Science or Computer and Information Technology may be admitted into their desired program on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the program's department chair. These policies pertain to transfer students within Marshall University or from another institution.
