Program Overview
Hartt Summerterm Program
The Hartt Summerterm program offers a comprehensive music education experience, providing students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the study of music education. The program encourages an environment where the exchange of ideas and concepts with fellow peers and colleagues is both welcomed and nourished.
Program Overview
Hartt Summerterm has provided more than 30 years of outstanding core courses and workshops for educators, artists, and students. The program offers graduate-level weeklong workshops, three- and six-week core curriculum classes for graduate students, and other continuing education offerings. Many students complete the Summers-Only Master of Music Education program by combining core courses and workshops.
Course Information
The program offers various courses, including:
- Mini-Workshops for Music Teachers (Non-College Credit)
- Music Teacher Workshop courses (for College Credit)
- Master of Music Education courses (for College Degree Credit)
Mini-Workshops for Music Teachers
These non-credited workshops are offered in partnership with professional music education organizations. Each workshop is 8 hours over 2 days, either in the morning or afternoon. Members of sponsoring associations, teachers from Alliance School Districts, and collegiate music education majors receive a tuition discount. Workshops will be in-person with a virtual option.

Music Teacher Workshop Courses
These courses are available for graduate credit. Tuition is charged at a rate of $275.00 per credit. Students can register online or on campus.
Master of Music Education Courses
The Master of Music Education (M.M.Ed.) degree program is intended for new and experienced music teachers who seek advanced study in music curriculum and instruction. Applicants for this degree will have completed a bachelor's degree in music education at an accredited institution and will have obtained their teacher certification.

Registration Details
Students interested in a full master's program must apply separately. For all others, early registration is encouraged. There is a nonrefundable registration fee per semester (summer) and a technology fee for all participants.
Summer Housing Information
Summer housing is available for students enrolled in Hartt Summer Term 1, 3, 4, 5, Hartt Core and/or Hartt 2 Week courses. Students must request summer housing by paying a $50 Summer Housing Application Fee and completing the Summer Housing Application in the housing portal.
Application Process
To apply for summer housing, students must:
- Submit the $50 summer housing application fee
- Complete the housing application
Requirements
To be eligible for summer housing, students must:
- Be a University of Hartford student enrolled in one or more Hartt Summerterm courses
- Have paid spring term charges in full or made special arrangements with the Bursar Office
- Be a spring residential student (for Summer I)
- Be registered to live on-campus for the academic year (for Summer II or Entire Summer)
