The THTRE 2810 Playwriting I course is a 3-hour program that introduces students to the principles of dramatic construction and formal devices of playwriting.
Course Description
Playwriting 1 is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of playwriting techniques, including creative writing exercises that explore monologue, dialogue, character in text, language as action, scene structure, exposition, and conflict. Students will have the opportunity to write individually and collaboratively in large groups, small groups, and pairs, and will share their writing in class to receive feedback in a supportive workshop environment.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will critically reflect on their writing and assemble a portfolio of their work.
- Emphasis is given to creative writing exercises and the development of playwriting skills.
Course Details
- The course is normally offered each spring semester.
- Students may not receive credit for both THTRE 1810FYW Playwriting I and THTRE 2810 Playwriting I.
