Course Information
The Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) with CA-EBS and Escape Chute Training is a comprehensive course designed for new entrants to the offshore oil and gas industry. This course covers the requirements for areas of offshore activities where compressed air emergency breathing systems (CAEBS) are in use.
Course Details
- Duration: 21 hours
- Price: £1175
- Approvals: OPITO
- Prerequisites: See main course description
About this Course
This course is designed for individuals who will be working in the offshore oil and gas industry, particularly in areas where compressed air emergency breathing systems (CAEBS) are used. The training includes escape chute training, which meets mandatory or company-specific training requirements. The combined training program is fully approved by OPITO, with supporting certification.
What You'll Learn
The combined course consists of two OPITO-approved training programs:
- Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET): Provides students with a basic understanding and awareness of the hazards encountered during travel to offshore installations and the emergency procedures to be followed in the event of an offshore incident. The training is based on four modules:
- Safety induction
- Sea survival (including first aid)
- Fire fighting and self-rescue
- Helicopter safety and escape training, including HUET (helicopter underwater escape training) with CA-EBS
- Escape Chute Training: Introduces both theoretical knowledge and practical exercises in the safe use of escape chutes, which are increasingly used on offshore installations and vessels.
Prerequisites
OPITO requires delegates to participate in CA-EBS In Water Training (IWT) exercises. As a result, delegates undertaking OPITO BOSIET/HUET/FOET with CAEBS courses will have to provide:
- Valid OEUK (formerly OGUK) Medical/or valid Offshore medical issued by a body outside of the UK (recognised as equivalent to the OEUK): Other medical certificates recognised by the Diving at Work Regulations 1997 exemption DWR/1 of 2018 as being equivalent to an Oil and Gas UK Offshore medical certificate are:
- Netherlands Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Association Medical
- Norwegian Directorate of Health (Petroleum Sector medical)
- A 'Fit' or 'Unfit' to undertake shallow water CA-EBS training certificate issued by a registered OEUK (formerly OGUK) examiner: This should have been done within the lifespan of the current offshore medical.
Important Information
If you possess a valid and current UK ENG1 Seafarers Medical (or a recognised equivalent seafarers medical) or HSE certificate of medical fitness provided by an Approved Medical Examiner of Diving (AMED), you will not be required to undertake the above prerequisites, as you have already met the requirements of the Diving at Work Regulations 1997.
Guidance for Delegates
Delegates who are or think they may be pregnant and wish to undertake training should contact the admissions team to obtain guidance regarding the additional documentary pre-requisite requirements.
