Economic Analytics (M.S.)

The Economic Analytics (M.S.) program at Towson University is designed to equip students with the economic and data analysis skills necessary for jobs in finance, banking, healthcare, government, NGOs, or to enter a doctoral program in economics or a related field.


Program Overview

In this master's program, students will learn to combine economic methods with data analytics techniques to assess the causal impact of policies, laws, business practices, natural events, and other interventions on economic outcomes of interest. The program's innovative and rigorous curriculum includes courses in computational economics, machine learning for economics, causal inference, and impact evaluation.


Admission Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (on a 4-point scale) is required for full admission to the program, and 2.75 is required for conditional admission.
  • Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required but recommended, especially for students whose record of quantitative courses is short or not as strong as they would like it to be.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Successful completion of intermediate microeconomics, preferably with calculus.
    • Successful completion of intermediate macroeconomics, preferably with calculus.
    • Successful completion of a course in calculus.
    • Successful completion of two courses of statistics or econometrics, including regression analysis.
  • Applications will be reviewed on an individual basis, but applicants who do not meet the above criteria but can demonstrate strong analytical abilities will be considered for the program.

  • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation from individuals well-placed to discuss the applicant's qualifications for graduate study and a career in economic analytics.

  • Resume/CV: A current resume or curriculum vitae, including education, employment history, awards, publication credits, and leadership roles.
