The Women's & Gender Studies (M.S.) program at Towson University is the only applied master's program in women's and gender studies in Maryland and the only master's program in the field in Baltimore. This program can be completed entirely online.

Program Overview

Towson University is a leader in creating programs that explore women's and gender issues. This interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary graduate program provides students with a solid academic foundation to pursue their personal and professional goals. The program emphasizes applied research methods and skills, preparing students for careers in a variety of public and private, national and international, and corporate and nonprofit organizations.

Admission Requirements & Deadlines

• Application Deadlines:
  • Spring: Priority Deadline - Nov. 1, Final Deadline - Dec. 15
  • Fall: Priority Deadline - June 15, Final Deadline - Aug. 7
• Admission Criteria:
  • No GRE scores are required
  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 is required for full admission to the program, and 2.75 is required for conditional admission
  • All GPA calculations for admission may be based upon the last 60 credits of undergraduate and post-baccalaureate study
• Prerequisites: Must have taken at least 9 units in Women's Studies and/or the social sciences
• Application Requirements:
  • Submit an online application, application fee, and official transcripts
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a college academician
  • Statement of Purpose: A detailed statement of purpose, 4-5 double-spaced pages, explaining specific plans for focused graduate study within the selected concentration

Additional Requirements for International Applicants

U.S. Immigration requires F1 and J1 students to be enrolled full-time with the majority of their classes taken in-person and on campus. International applicants must also comply with required credential evaluations and English-language proficiency requirements.

• Cost Per Credit (In-State Tuition & Fees): $739
• The program offers graduate students the opportunity to travel to professional conferences to present papers
• A limited number of Travel Grants for Graduate Students are available each academic year
• Research and internship opportunities are available in Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia, and the surrounding region
• Field experience, a 3-unit internship, is available for students who seek workplace experience but cannot devote the time for a full internship
