Program Overview
Middle School Music Camp
The Colorado Mesa University Middle School Music Camp is a week-long event designed for middle-school music students with at least one year of training in band or orchestra, as well as guitar students.
Program Details
- The camp includes five days of engaging instruction from the music faculty at Colorado Mesa University and professional musicians from the Grand Junction area.
- The price includes a Music Camp t-shirt, music enrichment courses, and all meals.
- Students perform in the Music Camp band, orchestra, or guitar ensemble.
- The camp is open to students completing 6th, 7th, and 8th grades with prior band, orchestra, or guitar experience.
- Guitar students must have 6 months of prior experience and be able to read pitches in treble clef.
- Students may stay overnight on campus or participate in all day and evening activities as a commuter.
Scholarships
- Some partial scholarships covering 75% of the registration fee are available for students with financial need.
- To be considered, the student's director and parent must each fill out the required forms no later than April 30, 2026.
Camp Schedule
- The camp runs from May 31 to June 5, 2026.
- Check-in is between 1-3 pm on May 31 in the Robinson Theatre lobby in the Moss Performing Arts Center.
- Auditions begin at 1:15 pm on May 31.
- Evening activities include a Game Night, Movie Night, Faculty Recital and Student Talent Night, and Sectional and Enrichment Course Performance Night.
Tuition and Payment
- The tuition fee is $650, including overnight accommodations on campus, and includes all meals from Sunday evening through Friday lunch.
- The tuition fee without accommodations is $495 and includes lunch and dinner from Sunday evening through Friday lunch.
- A fee of $15.00 is charged for a lost card, and a fee of $30.00 is charged for a lost residence hall room key.
Final Concert
- The final concert is on Friday, June 5, at 1 pm in the Asteria Theatre.
- The concert dress code is black pants or shorts and the camp t-shirt.
Requirements
- Students are allowed to have cell phones during Music Camp but must turn them off during rehearsals or classes.
- Required forms at the time of check-in include a completed medical form.
- Instrumentalists must bring an etude/exercise from their method book or part of a solo for auditions and be prepared to play major scales they are comfortable with, up to 2 sharps/flats for their instrument.
