Introduction to JD Access

Western New England University School of Law (WNE Law) is launching JD Access, an innovative part-time evening online Juris Doctor program, in Fall 2026. This program is designed to meet the needs of working professionals, non-traditional students, and individuals unable to commute to campus, offering an accessible and flexible legal education.

JD Access provides a legal education that emphasizes law and inequality, access to justice, experiential learning, and pro bono service. Students will gain the skills and knowledge to advocate for clients across all areas of legal practice, including civil rights, immigration reform, environmental justice, criminal defense, family law, and more.

This part-time evening program is tailored for students who require a non-traditional pathway to earning a JD. Whether you're balancing a career, family obligations, or geographical limitations, JD Access combines online learning with limited in-person residencies to help you achieve your goals without compromising your current commitments.

Program Highlights

Flexible Curriculum

• Completion options: 3.5 years (with summer courses) or 4 years.
• Format: Fully online courses delivered through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
• In-Person Residencies: Two required four-day residencies, one weekend residency, and optional residencies at the start of each semester post-1L year.
  • The content of our online program will be distinct in its strong emphasis and specialty focus on knowledge, skills, and values demanded by students preparing for legal practice across all settings, private and public, with an emphasis on social and economic justice.
  • Foundational courses incorporate themes of access to justice.
  • Upper-level electives will also emphasize opportunities to study and practice skills that address issues of law and inequality.
  • Connection and access to WNE Law's Center for Social Justice provide students opportunities for real-world pro bono work.

A Legacy of Advocacy

JD Access students will have the opportunity to participate in Western New England's Center for Social Justice programs during optional residencies. Students will engage in meaningful pro bono work addressing community needs, including:

• Records expungement
• Consumer debt restructuring
• Restorative justice initiatives Some initiatives may also be accessible remotely. All JD students are required to complete 20 hours of pro bono service, and JD Access students may complete the requirement in their home community or at Western New England through the Center for Social Justice.

Admissions Information

JD Access applicants will follow the same admissions process as the residential JD program.
