Program Overview
Health Sciences Program
The Health Sciences program primarily prepares students for entry-level positions in healthcare management. The freedom provided in minor and elective choices can also lead to more specialized careers such as medical sales. The option to add a concentration opens up the possibility for students to complete prerequisites for competitive professional or graduate programs.
Careers
The program prepares students for various careers in healthcare, including healthcare management and medical sales. The option to add a concentration also prepares students for careers in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and chiropractic medicine.
Undergraduate Program Concentrations
The Health Sciences program offers several undergraduate concentrations, including:
- Pre- concentrations for students intending to apply to Health Professions programs (Medical Laboratory Science, Communication Disorders, Nursing, Radiation Therapy, or Respiratory Care)
- Students accepted into one of these programs will have their major changed to that program
- Students not accepted or not interested in applying can graduate with their Pre-Program concentration in Health Sciences
Other Concentrations for Health Sciences
The program offers several other concentrations, including:
- Fine Motor Therapy (Pre-Occupational Therapy)
- minor required
- intended for students preparing for a career in occupational therapy
- includes prerequisites for many occupational therapy master's and doctorate programs
- Gross Motor Therapy (Pre-Physical Therapy)
- minor required
- intended for students preparing for a career in physical therapy
- includes prerequisite courses needed for Texas State's Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) program and many other Physical Therapy programs
- Pre-Chiropractic
- minor in Biochemistry recommended
- intended for students preparing for a career in chiropractic medicine
- includes prerequisite courses needed for most accredited chiropractic programs in the United States
