The Texas State Online at Night program, offered by Texas State Intensive English (TSIE), is designed for learners who want to improve their English after work or school. Course Description

This course develops advanced skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing with an academic and professional focus. Students will practice academic presentations, debates, discussions, and pronunciation for clear and effective communication. Authentic materials, such as TED Talks, articles, and case studies, will be used to strengthen note-taking, critical thinking, and vocabulary in academic and workplace contexts. The reading and writing component emphasizes strategies for analyzing complex texts, summarizing key ideas, and evaluating arguments across disciplines such as psychology, business, sociology, and technology. Students will also develop professional and academic writing skills by practicing organizational structure, rhetorical patterns, sentence variety, editing, and revision. By the end of the course, students will be able to apply advanced English skills in academic study, research, and professional communication.

Placement Notice

The night class is currently offered only at Level 4: High-Intermediate/Academic Focus. Students must be placed into this level through the placement process. If a student does not qualify for Level 4, they will have the option to enroll in a morning class at their appropriate level.
