About Program
Program Overview
Human Rights and Cultural Memory Program
The Human Rights and Cultural Memory program is designed for students passionate about social justice and equality. This program takes place in South America, specifically in Argentina and Chile, which are models of social, political, and cultural reinvention after rising from past military dictatorships.
Program Details
- Dates and Eligibility: The program is open to students who meet the basic criteria of being enrolled as a degree-seeking student with a UC campus, being in good academic standing, and maintaining eligibility from the time of application through the end of the program.
- Academics: The program offers interdisciplinary courses that include cultural activities and excursions to understand the history and socio-political conditions of Argentina and Chile. Students analyze how past constructions of human rights influence current thinking on the rights of various groups and connect human rights to topics like development, poverty, and democracy.
- Housing: Students immerse in South American culture by living with Argentine and Chilean hosts, arranged by UCEAP's partners. During breaks, students arrange their own housing, often finding hostels to be cost-efficient.
- Cost and Support: The program estimates include UC tuition, round-trip airfare, housing, meals, program excursions, and other living expenses. UCEAP scholarships are available to help defray costs, including a Global Scholarship of up to $2,000.
