Course Description

The course is designed to teach the basics of Swedish for everyday life situations. After finishing the course, students will be able to share the basics about themselves in Swedish, read and write simple texts, and discuss topics like family, hobbies, studies, city, and transport.

Course Contents and Objectives

The course covers basic grammar structures like pronouns, verbs in present and past tense, nouns and plural forms, word order in main clause, adjectives, and prepositions. It also includes:

• Swedish pronunciation
• Greetings, small talk, asking and answering simple questions
• Numbers (cardinals and ordinals)
• Telling the time, dates, and time expressions
• Shopping and ordering at a cafť or restaurant
• Sharing opinions
• Culture and facts about the Nordic countries

Study Materials

All materials are available in a digital learning environment.

Teaching and Assessment Methods

Students will study independently with the help of texts, recordings, videos, and interactive exercises in the learning environment and practice what they have learned in regular online meetings. The evaluation is based on interactive exercises and assignments, as well as an oral exam.

Grading Criteria

The course uses a pass/fail grading system.

Amount of Work

The total amount of work for the course is 135 hours, broken down into:

• Independent study (includes learning tasks): 112 hours
• Online meetings: 11 x 2 hours = 22 hours
• Exam: 1 hour

Enrollment and Schedule

• Enrollment period: December 1st, 2025 January 11th, 2026
• Course schedule: The course is open in Moodle from January 28th to April 30th, with mandatory webinars on Wednesdays at 16:00-17:30.
• Exam: The oral exam will be held on a date announced during the course.
