• 4 levels of technical training
• 6330 work-based training hours
• Writing the Interprovincial (Red Seal) examination for journeyperson-certification

Truck and Transport Mechanic Apprenticeship Program

• 4 levels of technical training
• 6330 work-based training hours
• Writing the Interprovincial (Red Seal) examination for journeyperson-certification

Diesel Engine Mechanic Program

• Successful completion of HMTA Level 1 and HMTA Level 2
• Registration as a Diesel Engine Mechanic and a Certification of Qualification as a Diesel Engine Mechanic

HMTA Levels

The program is divided into four levels:

HMTA Level 1 (10 weeks)

HMTA Level 2 (8 weeks)

• Electrical – diagnosing and repair

• Power trains covering the diagnoses and repair of clutches
• Manual transmissions
• Automated transmissions
• Automatic transmissions
• Drive axles
• Final drives

• Power take offs

HMTA Level 4 (5 weeks)

• Diagnose and repair of advanced hydraulics
• Electrical drive systems

HMTT Level 4 (5 weeks)

• Diagnose and repair of advanced brake system

• Hybrid electrical systems
• Truck hydraulic assisted steering systems

Admission Requirements

• Successfully completed the previous apprenticeship level
• Registered as an apprentice with SkilledTradesBC
• Have an employer sponsor

Program Fees

The program fees include:

• Tuition
• Additional mandatory student fees

• VIU Students' Union fee

The fees are as follows:

• HMTA Level 1: $1,198.80 (tuition) + $233 (additional mandatory student fees) = $1,431.80
• HMTA Level 2: $959.04 (tuition) + $186.40 (additional mandatory student fees) = $1,145.55
• HMTA Level 3: $719.28 (tuition) + $139.80 (additional mandatory student fees) = $859.08
• HMTA Level 4: $599.40 (tuition) + $116.50 (additional mandatory student fees) = $715.90
• HMTT Level 4: $599.40 (tuition) + $116.50 (additional mandatory student fees) = $715.90
