Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology

This course gives students the basic medical terminology vocabulary to communicate information effectively in a medical environment.

Course Description

Learn medical words, identifying suffixes, prefixes, and combining forms related to body systems. Prepare to write the Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority) Medical Terminology exam.

Prerequisites

This course is a prerequisite for:

• Nursing Unit Assistant (also referred to as Hospital Unit Coordinator) certificate
• Medical Device Reprocessing Technician certificate
• Medical Office Assistant certificate

Course Completion

Students receive a statement of course completion when they successfully finish the course with a minimum 72% grade.

Textbook

The Language of Medicine, 13th Edition with Med Term Online Course Access code and Adapting quiz (with user guide, course access code, access code to Evolve resources and textbook), by Davi-Ellen Chabner.

Recommended Materials

A recent medical dictionary (3 years old or less) such as Tabers Medical Dictionary "Plain" or Stedman's Medical Dictionary.
