University Studies Program

The tiwmawtx campus of Vancouver Island University offers a University Studies program, providing students with the opportunity to earn their first year of university credits in a supportive and interactive learning environment.

About the Program

The University Studies program at the tiwmawtx campus is designed to prepare students for further academic study. Students can earn credits in university courses that are transferrable to most diploma programs at VIU and elsewhere. The program offers small, interactive classes with individualized help and support, as well as access to the Writing Center on campus.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the University Studies program, students must meet one of the following conditions:

• Graduation from a BC secondary school, or equivalent, with a minimum "C" grade in English 12 or equivalent
• Previous degree from a recognized university
• Visiting student from a College or University (a "Letter of Permission" from the home institution is required)
• Transfer student from a College or University (at least 24 transferable university-level credits completed)
• Mature student at least 21 years of age (or will turn 21 in the first semester of admission) and has a minimum "C" grade in English 12 or equivalent
• Unclassified Student - students who do not meet any of the admission categories above may be admitted as an "Unclassified Student" and register in classes for which they meet the prerequisite

Fees

Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance may be available to students demonstrating financial need. The program is government student loan eligible, and applications for the academic year are available each June. Part-time students may also be eligible for a Part-Time Studies Grant.

Upon completing the University Studies program, students may go on to complete a degree at Vancouver Island University or at other universities, including:

• Bachelor of Liberal Studies The courses taken in the University Studies program can also fill the elective portion of other degrees and diplomas, such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Bachelor of Science.
