Introduction to the Bachelor of Interior Design Program

The Bachelor of Interior Design program at Vancouver Island University is a 4-year degree program offered by the Art and Design Department. This program is designed for students who wish to pursue a professional career in the creative and multi-faceted discipline of interior design.

Program Structure and Curriculum

Over nine semesters, including a paid internship term scheduled in the summer between the third and fourth year, the program provides a balanced range of theoretical, intellectual, communication, experiential, applied, and other skills needed to deal effectively with the responsibilities of interior design professional life. The structure of the degree combines focused specialized curricula with broad elective courses. The interior design curriculum features:

Students are eligible for membership in IDIBC, and upon graduation and two years of approved, related work experience, they may write the professional exams set by NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) to become Professional Registered Interior Designers.
