Dental Hygiene Diploma Program

The Dental Hygiene Diploma is a two-year, full-time academic program offered at the Nanaimo campus of Vancouver Island University.

Mission Statement

To provide the educational foundation necessary to support dental hygiene theory and practice, the program fosters critical and ethical thinking skills, professionalism, lifelong learning, and evidence-based practice through interdisciplinary collaboration. Advocacy, oral health promotion, and disease prevention are integral components of the program. The program is committed to enhancing equity, diversity, and inclusion to maximize learning.

Program Details

• The program is a two-year, full-time academic program.
• The program is offered at the Nanaimo campus of Vancouver Island University.
• Students will be required to complete four semesters of academic study and clinical practice, including Fall and Spring semesters.
• The anticipated time commitment from students is from September to April for both years one and two.
• Theoretical and practical class work occurs on campus and in the community from Monday to Saturday, including days and evenings.
