Bachelor of Building Surveying

The Bachelor of Building Surveying is a unique specialized building surveyor degree that prepares students for critical roles in improving the safety and quality of the built environment. This course is the only one of its kind offered in Victoria, and it is available online with real-time delivery.

Overview

The Bachelor of Building Surveying is designed to provide students with the vital skills and knowledge required to become in-demand building surveyors. The course covers the latest knowledge informed by industry partners and provides students with the opportunity to connect with these partners through regular real-world projects, guest speakers, work site visits, and industry expos.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the Bachelor of Building Surveying, applicants must meet the minimum entry criteria, which include English-language requirements and academic requirements. The course does not have a minimum ATAR requirement, and applicants with recent secondary education, vocational education and training, higher education study, or work and life experience may be eligible.

Admission Criteria

• Completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (VCE or equivalent) including Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English.
• Completion of an Australian Advanced Diploma or Diploma (or equivalent).
• Completion of the Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (or equivalent).
• Full or partial completion of an Australian Higher Education award (or equivalent).
• Completion of two units of Higher Education studies.
• Completion of a bridging or enabling course (e.g., Foundation course or equivalent).
• Five years (minimum) work/life experience in Construction, Environmental Sustainability, or similar.

The Bachelor of Building Surveying consists of 288 credit points, which includes 96 credit points of First Year Core studies and 192 credit points of Professional Core and Capstone studies.

Fees and Scholarships

The course is offered as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) for eligible students, with an indicative fee of AU$9,537 per year for full-time students in 2026. Victoria University also offers a range of scholarships to support students in their studies.

Careers

Graduates of the Bachelor of Building Surveying will be qualified to work as registered building surveyors, with career opportunities in construction, professional, scientific, and technical services, or public administration and safety. The Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) reports that building surveyors can earn a starting salary of $80,000 and up to $250,000 per year as fully qualified professionals.

The course is available online, with start dates in April and July 2026. Applications close in April and July, respectively.

Professional Accreditation

The Bachelor of Building Surveying is accredited by the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) to meet the educational requirements for Building Surveyor Level 2 registration with AIBS.
