Program Overview


Master of Teaching (Primary Education)

The Master of Teaching (Primary Education) is a postgraduate degree designed for students who want to become primary school teachers. This course empowers students to make a positive difference to children, families, and communities. With VU Online, students will develop the skillset required to effectively teach subjects in all areas of the primary curriculum.


Course Overview

Good teachers create classrooms where teachers and students care about each other, where there is equity and opportunity, where the foundations for success are set, and where a lifelong love of learning begins. This course meets the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and is accredited by the Victoria Institute of Teaching (VIT), which means graduates will be eligible for registration to teach in the whole of Australia upon graduation.


Duration and Study Intakes

The course duration is 2 years and 8 months part-time, with study intakes in January, March, May, July, August, and October.


Fees

The course costs $2,950 - $5,900 per unit, with certain units being double-weighted and prices adjusted accordingly. The total cost for all 14 units is $47,200. FEE-HELP loans are available to assist eligible full-fee paying students with the cost of a university course.


Entry Requirements

  • Completion of an Australian bachelor's degree (or equivalent).
  • Applicants will also be asked to complete an assessment of their non-academic attributes.
  • Applicants with a bachelor's degree from countries other than Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, or the Republic of Ireland will be required to complete IELTS (or equivalent): Overall 7.0 with Listening 7.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.5, Speaking 7.5.
  • All students need to pass a CASPer test or VU Non-Academic Attributes (ANAA) interview prior to admission.
  • All students need a 3.5 GPA average for entry into the course.

Career Options

This course will allow students to become a teacher who can apply a variety of approaches to teaching and learning. Graduates will be eligible for registration to teach in primary schools across the whole of Australia.

Course Structure

The course is delivered fully online, combining flexible coursework with mandatory in-school placements. Students will study one unit at a time in six study periods per year, offering more flexibility than traditional on-campus degrees.

Placements

Students will complete a total of 65 days of placement during their studies, which must be completed in Australia.


LANTITE

The LANTITE test is a national government requirement for initial teacher education programs. It is a test designed to assess students' literacy and numeracy skills to ensure they are well-equipped to meet the demands of teaching. Students can sit literacy and numeracy online practice tests to prepare for the LANTITE test.
