Exercise Physiology Practicum 2

Unit Overview

The Exercise Physiology Practicum 2 is a postgraduate unit within the Master of Clinical Exercise Science and Rehabilitation. It is the final practicum unit in the course, where students integrate their knowledge, skills, and experiences to engage in authentic practitioner experiences at the level expected of a graduating exercise physiologist.

Overview

This unit is designed to enable students to undergo tasks that evaluate and explore the opportunities available to accredited exercise physiologists in the industry. Students will collate evidence of their capabilities, developed experience, and personal attributes to reflect on their growth across the course and form a portfolio of evidence supporting their employability.


Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:


  1. Evaluate career opportunities for accredited exercise physiologists and conceptually map the employability skills required to be successful in these roles.
  2. Compose evidence of employability as an accredited exercise physiologist and concisely articulate personal strengths and areas for continued development.
  3. Devise a research project aligned to identified personal strengths, professional interests, and within the AEP scope of practice.
  4. Exhibit effective and respectful written or verbal communication consistent with the ESSA Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Practice.
  5. Design and implement evidence-based and person-centred exercise assessments and interventions to diverse populations within the exercise physiologist scope of practice.

Assessment

The assessment for this unit includes:


  • Portfolio (30%): Compilation of evidence and reflection on professional development within the course.
  • Mock job application and interview (40%): Students will undergo a mock job application and interview using real job advertisements.
  • Research Paper (30%): Propose a research project related to identified strengths.
  • Practicum (0%): Supervisor Evaluation completed during student external placements (Hurdle).
