Program Overview

Introduction to Waring School

Waring School is a coeducational, independent day school for grades 6-12 located in Beverly, Massachusetts.

Theatre Program

The Theatre Program at Waring School is designed to nurture students' artistic impulses and enable them to flourish in multiple performance roles. The program is ensemble-based, encouraging students to participate in multiple design aspects while developing their onstage potential.

Core Theatre Class

The Core Theatre class introduces students to the fundamentals of theatrical experience. Students participate in exercises designed to hone their skills as listeners, observers, and collaborators. They create several plays and perform a selection of these during Core Night each November.

Group 1 Theatre Class

The Group 1 Theatre class builds on the foundations established in Core Theatre. The course meets two periods each week and during allotted Group 1 humanities classes. Students participate in character and ensemble-building exercises, building toward a final production developed in collaboration with their humanities class.

Co-Curricular Theatre

The Co-Curricular Theatre program is offered during the afternoon sports period and is ensemble-based. It encourages students to fully develop their onstage potential while participating in all aspects of the production, including costuming, lighting, set design, and advertising.

  • A collection of student-written plays drafted during the fall playwriting class
