Endterm Program

Overview

Endterm is a two-and-a-half-week period at the end of each school year devoted to experiential learning and a time for students to pursue their passions and explore their creativity in myriad unique, personal interests and subjects.

Course Offerings

• In The Mix: A course about finding out what happens when you mix different media and allow your ideas to take new and different shapes.
• Read Books & Reimagine the Library: A course where students take an active role in transforming the Waring library into a more inviting, functional, and inspiring space for reading and study.
• Sew Waring: A course where students learn about creating, modifying, and making their own clothes.
• Primitive Ceramic Techniques & Storytelling: A course where students explore ancient ceramic techniques and create ceremonial objects and masks.
• Dog Days of Waring: A course about dog history and mythology around the world, working dogs, and dog training.
• As We Like It in the Forest: A course exploring one of Shakespeare's most beloved romantic comedies through forest exploration and expression.
• The Endterm Edit: Documenting the Daily Duties of the Waring Wolfpack: A course about creating documentaries and telling stories about slices of life at Waring.
• Everything We Do Is Business!: A course taking a deep dive into the world of business and its role in society.
• Symbiosis: A course braiding together strands of poetry, biology, artisanship, and adventure to explore what it means to live with others.

Endterm Coordinator

Dan Wellehan is the Endterm Coordinator and teaches both biology and geometry. He has taught biology and outdoor education for over 20 years and has instructed for Outward Bound for over two decades. Dan is passionate about putting learning into practice and applying ideas to more than paper. He majored in Geology at Bates College and has a Masters of Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
