Program Overview
Introduction to the Theology Major
The theology major is an intellectually rigorous and integrative pursuit that allows students to know God and all things in light of God, with a central focus on the human person. This major provides students with great freedom in developing their own course of study.
Program Structure
The theology major, supplemental major, and joint major in philosophy and theology are built on coursework in Christian scripture and tradition. Through this coursework, students learn to engage with texts of scripture and gain an understanding of the central works of Christianity over time.
Coursework Options
Students can pursue elective coursework in various areas, including:
- Ancient Judaism
- Environmental ethics
- Catholic dialogue with Islam With approximately 50 distinct courses offered each semester, students have a wide range of options to complete the requirements of a major or minor.
Enhancing Studies
Beyond the classroom, students can enhance their studies by:
- Conducting independent research
- Writing a senior thesis
- Getting involved in the broader university community
