Introduction to the Naughton Fellowship

The Naughton Fellowship is available to exceptional students and faculty in STEM disciplines at Ireland's top research universities and the University of Notre Dame. This fellowship facilitates cross-cultural collaborative research, enabling successful candidates to participate in science and engineering studies with cutting-edge professors on both sides of the Atlantic.

Program Details

Undergraduate Level

At the undergraduate level, students can apply to a summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. This is a fully-funded, 10-week summer research opportunity. Notre Dame undergraduate students can conduct research in labs at Ireland's top universities.

Program Administration

The REU program is administered through the Irish Internship Program while students are in Ireland. Notre Dame students are supported by ND Dublin staff (Dublin City University, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin) and ND Kylemore staff (University of Galway) depending on their research lab location.

Reciprocal Program

The REU program reciprocates with Irish partner universities, allowing up to eight Irish undergraduate students to conduct 10 weeks of research over a summer at Notre Dame under the direction of a faculty mentor.
